Rumdel (Pty) Ltd – hereinafter referred to as Rumdel – is a privately owned, multidisciplinary civil engineering construction company operating throughout Southern Africa. We have experience in delivering complex projects including roads, dams and incrementally launched bridges, and have the capability of executing a wide range of other civil engineering infrastructure projects. The company has a category 9 CE grading issued by the Construction Industry Development Board in South Africa, and is therefore not limited in the size of civil engineering projects it may tender for in South Africa.
Our largest project executed to date was Phase 2 and 3 of the road between Ugie and Langeni in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. These two phases were executed concurrently and had a combined value of R 1,2 billion. This project was completed in 2009. The company has achieved certification for its Intergrated Management system in terms of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.

Rumdel has its roots in WJM Construction which was established in Cape Town in 1960.
Rumdel came into existence in 1999 after a management buyout from Rumdel Holdings.

1983
WJM Construction (Zululand) expands into the Transkei and the former provinces of Natal and the Eastern Cape.
1988
WJM Construction (Zululand) establishes administrative offices in Port Elizabeth.
1991
Rumdel Construction (Pty) Ltd is established from the management buyout of WJM Construction (Zululand) from the WJM group. The first directors of Rumdel Construction are John Rumble, Barry De Lacy, Peter De Lacy and Hendrik Boshoff.
Rumdel Construction establishes administrative offices in East London.
1994
Rumdel Construction establishes administrative offices in Durban.
1999
Rumdel Construction (Cape) (Pty) Ltd is established as an operating subsidiary of Rumdel Holdings (Ltd).
2004
John Rumble and Barry De Lacy retire. Peter De Lacy purchases Rumdel Cape from Rumdel Holdings.
2023
Rumdel Construction (Cape) (Pty) changed it’s name to Rumdel (Pty) Ltd.
